Mohawk Lakes

Hiked up Mohawk Lakes just outside of Breckenridge, CO last weekend. Was uphill all the way there but worth it when we arrived at the top lake. The water was so clear you could see rainbow trout swimming. Also saw my first mountain goats and a moose. Layla is almost 9 years old now and still made it through the hike like a champ. So far this is my favorite lake hike in Colorado, the pictures just don't do it any justice.

At Breckenridge Brewery enjoying some brews after the hike.

The Via Ferrata

While in Telluride Chris and I were able to do the Via Ferrata. It's located at the end of Telluride and is a horizontal hike that involves narrow paths and iron ladder stairs that are bolted into the cliff. Some sections you are able to walk on the narrow path and others involve hooking into a metal cable that runs along the path. So you don't climb up but you are clipped into a cable in case you did slip. This type of climbing was developed during World War One to help soldiers scale mountain faces in the Dolomites. There are routes located all over central Europe. Chris had done it before and I have to say this will most likely be my first and last. The views were amazing during the hike but I have to say I did not really look. I was quite terrified while doing it but I really wanted to complete it and am glad I did.

End of the hike, the look of relief on my face!
You can see Bridal Falls in the background, beautiful.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival

Just getting around to blogging again. In June I got to go up to Telluride for their 43rd annual Bluegrass Festival. We all camped together, the music was great and the views are always amazing in. It is definitely my favorite place in Colorado.

Camping Trip

A few of my favorite pics from a recent camping trip and hike. Hiked to Crater Lake which was still frozen over.  The hike consisted of quite a bit of snow but it was still warm enough to stay in shorts and a tank.

Hiking in Boulder

Last weekend I went to Boulder to do a little hiking with friends. Had a lot of fun then grabbed lunch on Pearl Street.

4-Mile Falls

Hiked up 4-Mile Falls yesterday. The water was going pretty good, you can't really tell from the pic, I put my camera away when I got close to play in the water. Lots of wildflowers on the way up. You can see all the dead trees from the beetle kill, this area was hit really hard. Still a beautiful area despite it. Made friends with some chipmunks where we stopped to eat lunch, pretty sure the hikers are good to them, they are pretty brave.
